Dear Family,
So this week was pretty unique. Tuesday we got a text from an Hermano
in the named Hermano Joya, and he gave us the info of this guy named
Melvin. We went over to his house and Hermano Joya was there talking
to him outside. He told Melvin that us missionaries would take care of
him and teach him. He left and so we had our first lesson with Melvin
and he is SOO solid! He gets everything we teach and he's super smart.
He wants to be a missionary like us. He's 24 from El Salvador. He's so
cool too. We actually had dinner that night with Hermano Joya and he
asked why we were gonna go back Saturday. He told us he doesn't have a
job and has nothing to do so we acknowledged his trust he has in us
and so we started visiting him every day! He's already on date for
4/29/17 and we already gave him a church tour! He's super awesome and
already progressing. However, we received a text from him the other
night saying he got kicked out of his house and has no where to sleep
and we haven't seen or heard from him since then. We hope we can find
Melvin again 😧
We had an exchange and Elder Oldroyd came to me in my area. It was a
good opportunity for both of us because I was able to teach him a ton
and to help his Spanish. On Friday my comp and I taught this less
active and we read Moroni 6 and it was really normal and good until we
asked her what the Sacrament means to her. Then she just went off on a
rant on how she still believes in the BOM and the Restoration but
doesn't think it's necessary to keep the commandments anymore. She
then kinda attacked us by saying we were probably on our missions
because our parents obligated us to and things like that. Elder
Brunsdale got a little worked up and we had a small bash with her on
the natural man...she said she's "encontrando si misma". Hmm...
Well, Saturday Elder Rasband came back to Virginia and had a fireside
in the Centerville stake center. We went and listened to his words.
He, his wife and my mission president and his parents spoke. It was
cool to meet President Huntsman parents, his dad is the founder of
Huntsman Cancer Foundation. Yep...that's my mission president. The son
of the founder and the brother of former governor John Huntsman. Safe
to say President Huntsman is loaded haha he got a lot of praise that
night. I didn't know that Elder Rasband was hired by them for their
company as an accountant years ago. I really liked what Elder Rasband
shared. He used the scriptures Job 14:14 and 19:25-27 and then John
11:25-26. He talked about the resurrection and I really loved it. I
left that meeting edified.
I hope you all had a fantastic Easter! Mine was great. We got 3
investigators to church again! 😃 We had another lesson with our
investigator Lorena and we invited her to baptism again but she said
she still doesn't know. We'll keep trying. Hope you all have a good
week.
