Dear All,
Surprise!!! This week we had a baptism!!! πππ The Lord works in
mysterious ways. When we thought we would have had a baptism and
didn't, He gave us another chance to fulfill our transfer goal. So
Charlie didn't get baptized last week but then a week ago on Monday,
we got a call from one of our old investigators saying that he wanted
to get baptized on Friday the 30th!!! It was so awesome! This week
was a lot of preparing for that. We had 7 lessons this week and I was
able to meet FabriciΓ³ an inactive high school student. He's really
cool and we invited him to conference. We did that a lot this week, we
tried to get as many people to conference as possible.
Well Thursday, we had a dinner with Hermana Rodriguez and it took a
while haha after that Elder Castillo and I did a quick exchange
because Elder Purser went with Elder Gosain to interview Timoteo which
I will get to. So Elder Castillo and I went together and we had to
walk to a pass-off lesson with the Hermanas. We were in a hurry and
it was still quite a ways a way so we caught a city bus down to get us
there quicker. The FIRST time in my life I ride a Metrobus, I leave
my wallet on it. I lost my wallet this week on the bus and I still
have no idea where it could possibly be. I've already tried
contacting Metro's lost and found but still nothing....my wallet is
gone π¨. So! That means I've been driving illegally for these past
few days π³π³π³ but transfers are this Thursday so...I will probably
be paired with someone who can drive. Dang, I can't drive anymore.
Haha remember when I came from Mexico and was so excited after 6 weeks
of no driving?? Haha now here's the ultimate test I guess lol. No
more until my wallet turns up or until the end of my mission.
Well, now I'll write about the baptism of Timoteo Sancho!! He
seriously called us on Monday and said he wanted to be baptized this
Friday!! So we spent some time at the library this week making the
program and getting preparations done and stuff. It was a super
simple service, there were 2 simple talks and a musical number by me
on my guitar. It was done in like 45 minutes. It was awesome! I'll
give you pictures.
We ended up getting Charlie to the Priesthood session of conference
and a less active member to another session. It was great. The
priesthood of my ward had a bunch of food before the session and we
got the leftovers so that was awesome!!!! During conference, I really
liked how the message was conveyed that we cannot hide or postpone
repenting. I noted that multiple people talked about repenting now
and not later. Let's do that.
Well, I'm in the process of getting a new mission credit card but it
won't come for 3 weeks!! π©π© ugh...I don't know what to do. Elder
Gosain are now in DC together. We went to the Smithsonian and we are
about to go into the Archives and head back home to relax. I hope
that you all had a good week and continue to do so. Sorry if you got
a weird cut short email from me haha. Thanks for all of your support!
Love,
Elder Thompson
Dear All,
This week was transfers again, and even though I was expecting to be
sent to a different companion because Elder Gosain can't drive and
neither can I....but! We are still companions! I'm driving illegally
and my president knows so...I guess I'm still meant to be here.
Last Monday we had a Noche de Hogar with a less active member Hermana
Soliz and we are actually doing one again tonight!! This week, our
district meeting went from Tuesday to Wednesday because we went to
help someone move. That night we had Correlation and we missionaries
were so anxious because transfer doctrine comes the Tuesday night
before transfers on Thursday via email so we found out then. Elder
Gosain is now the district leader! Our district is almost the same but
We had Hermana Rasmussen leave and now we have Hermana Wright with
Hermana Flores.
Wednesday we had our district meeting and it was kinda fun but without
purpose. We did a fun jeopardy game with PMG but that's all we did
haha. It was good though. We had a weird day this week where all of
our plans broke and I finally reported my missing wallet to the
police. We were at McDonalds when I contacted them so they had an
officer come to us there. It was awkward when leaving because we
drove there haha so we walked down the sidewalk but there was like
this drug bust going on right next to us hahaha so we had the other
Elders walk and drive us away. They're good sports.
This week we had lessons with Elkin, Fabricio, Daniel, Marcos, Byron
Leonardo, and Timoteo! We're so glad that we found Elkin again but
we're still trying to get him to church! Fabricio's lessons are always
interesting. He's so funny and he talks so fast I still can't
understand him π© Byron Leonardo is an investigator that's been
investigating for a while but we are probably going to work with him
again. It's so awesome to watch people progress right in front of
you. I don't know how else to say that but when you're in the shoes
of a missionary, you will know I guess.
We were worried on Sunday because Timoteo didn't show up until after
the sacrament but he showed up! He was confirmed a member! π so
awesome!! After church la Hermana Rodriguez invited us to have dinner.
She is an awesome cook, she's the one that owns a restaurant so her
food is always good. She asked us to say a prayer for her house and
so we all did that, it was a nice experience.
There's not a lot until today. Today we went to the mission office
and I finally got a new debit card, so I bought a wallet too haha. We
did our shopping and stuff and went to the Springfield mall because
Elder Gosain needs shoes but they were all too expensive there haha.
The weather here changed so fast!! More leaves are falling and it went
from 70s one day to 50s the next day. It's sweater weather!!!
Anyway...sorry I feel like this letter is really shallow and choppy
but...I'm trying to remember a lot and not stress all while I'm trying
to rest haha. Oh I hit my 7 month mark yesterday! And thus ended the
30th week in the mission of Elder Thompson.
